A Community Health Worker (CHW) is a trusted member, and has a close understanding of, the ethnicity, language, socio-economic status, and life experiences of the community served. 

A CHW assists people to gain access to needed services and builds individual, community, and system capacity. They help increase health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, patient navigation and follow-up, community health education and information, informal counseling, social support, advocacy, and participation in clinical research.

Health Worker (CHW)

Community Health Workers are vital in addressing the health and wellness needs of marginalized communities. The demand for CHW's has increased over the years throughout the nation - especially in Texas.

No required textbooks. You need a computer with stable internet connection with audio and video capability. 

Our CHW training course is DSHS certified 160-hour competency-based program. There are 8 core competencies you must successfully complete. 

Our Community Health Worker training program is an

4-week virtual certification course.

Our training program has a fee but we have several scholarships available to help cover the cost of tuition. No payments are required upfront.

This course is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services through the South Coastal AHEC, CHW Training Site #47 (TDSHS CHW to provide Community Health Worker/Promotora training).
